Maybe the crab....

Do you know the hermit crab story?

The story in which the crab must risk everything to go and grow - or if it stays in its current shell it "shall" suffocate and die.  However, if the crab risks it all - it takes the chance of being eaten and not surviving the run to the new shell.  Isn't that life?  Stay where you are and die or risk it all and die.......

While in California last year, I was a the beach with a friend of mine - she's 12.  Her dad and I were friends when we were teenagers.  Life goes very fast.  While hunting for crabs, I have one on my hand - literally, the crab, runs away and leaves the shell on my hand.  I've never seen a naked crab.  Neither had she.  (I kept the shell)

Upon returning, why did the crab leave me his shell????

What did the shell mean?  Was I the shell?  Do we always have a shell in life?

Maybe the crab?

Gave me everything he had and that had to be enough

Knew I needed the protection more than him

Had to grow without safety

Was sent to protect me, because my current shell wasn't strong enough

Thought I was the more powerful bigger crab

Thought it was better to surrender than to fight

Knew there was a better, prettier, stronger shell waiting

Was about to suffocate and felt safe leaving his old life with me

felt strong enough to go on

Wanted to get bigger

had to leave his past behind

Knew that all you really need is on the inside anyway

Didn't need a shell any more

Knew sometimes you have to risk it all.....

Or maybe, just maybe

All he really needed, was for me to follow him naked into the water.

Sometimes, we make a big thing out of something that isn't.......
